In fact, some of Black Hollywood is down right upset about the Oscars.
It’s an exciting day to be a part of the entertainment industry unless you are among the injured who suffered serious snubs on January 14, 2016 when the Oscar Nominations List was made available.
Idris Elba – who refuses to be known as a ‘Black Actor’, Ice Cube and other African Americans were among the injured. “Concussion” star Will Smith, “Creed’s” Michael B. Jordan and “Sicario” supporting player Benicio del Toro were also left out on nomination morning
There will be six best picture nominees to join them: “Bridge of Spies,” “Spotlight,” “The Big Short,” “The Martian,” “Brooklyn” and “Room.” Notably not among them: Two Whites related to “Straight Outta Compton” and “Carol,” both of which were pegged to make the cut by awards handicappers.
For the second year in a row, Oscar voters put forth an all-white field of acting nominees. Without the diverse “Straight Outta Compton” – last year’s field at least had “Selma” – the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is certain to face blowback for its selections.
Do you think Idris and Ice Cube and other Black actors are over reacting or justified in their anger?
