(www.BlacksinHollywood.com) – Empire fans have been wondering what their favorite star has been up to. Here’s a little hint. Nearly 800 fans of the hit TV show “Empire” crowded in and around the Coral Square Mall on Sunday, hoping for a chance to see two of the show’s breakout stars.
Best friends Kiki Edwards and Krisy Cardenas arrived at the mall at noon from West Palm Beach. They stood in line for hours to get their soundtrack CDs signed by Jussie Smollett and Bryshere “Yazz” Gray, who portray singers Jamal and Hakeem Lyon on the Fox show.
He’s been quite busy breaking hearts across the country but also helping people remember that the show is just a show and not for real.
“It was great, they were very friendly, very nice, and I asked for hugs and they both gave us hugs,” said Edwards, 27, as she flashed her signed album cover.
The F.Y.E. music store gave wristbands to the first 800 customers to buy the show’s chart-topping album “Empire: Original Soundtrack From Season 1.” The soundtrack debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart on March 10. Everyone who had a wristband was allowed to get their album cover signed by Smollett and Bryshere. Fans who weren’t as early as Edwards and Cardenas waited outside in the summer-like heat. Many fans carried umbrellas and water bottles to combat the temperatures in the mid-80s.
